True on insurance, I've got that covered... But a shock sensor in the past has helped protect both the bike and kids around the bike from getting burned... And well who really wants to go through insurance, its not really all about the money with a scoot, its about your relationship that you build over many miles.... I have no doubt you understand that....

Yeah more or less I'll be out of the city hot spots where most expected trouble is expected to be found. Chains are swell idea but yeah you and others are correct, if a pro wants it, thats what is insurance is for...
But a slightly upgraded alarm, for times I'm sleeping in bushes 15-20 yards away can save an accessory and/or saddle bag grab where as the HD stock is going to only wake me if someone actually tilts the bike...
I've really never had a problem before, but always had a better alarm system on my other tour bike. More often than not it was kids too close but there was also a time where I was sleeping at a rest stop about 15 yards away and woke up to a few chirps to look up and see an overly interested man who when I got up quickly got in his van and drove off.
