I'm gunna be logging about 10,000 miles this summer going from Cali to Alaska to Sturgis and back home. I'm more or less camping out the trip and want to increase the security a bit. Especially if I park and backpack up a mountain or two. OR even when near the bike I Figure if someone is already sitting on the bike, to setoff the factory alarm, they're pretty much only 60 seconds away from a hotwire ride away. So adding just the plug and play smart siren II just doesn't make me feel any better.
I'm lookin for some advice on maybe wiring in an aftermarket alarm system to work with the factory installed system. More or less it would be nice if the aftermarket could be more of a plug and play install into the existing fobs.
I would like to find a system with parameter and pager features.
There should be plenty of trees where your going, chain it to one!
If the theifs want your bike and your nowhere near, their going to take it.
Maybe the chances of it getting stolen will be less because it sounds you will be in remote locations?
Last fall I was working in Florida and had taken my bike with me, staying in hotels. One day my ignition lock stopped working on my Road King (still have not replaced it) but can lock my steering. Anyway, went to the local HD shop and bought a 20mm security cable and it gave me some peace of mind but like already said, if someone that knows what they are doing they will get your bike. The only downside to this cable is the added weight and space it takes up. I stored it around my passenger backrest when I went home.
Just go and enjoy the trip. If someone wants to steal the bike they will do it...no matter how you try and protest it.
I carry a cable lock and when away from home (overnight), I'll run it thru the rear wheel and frame leaving the lock on top of the seat. If someone wants it bad enough, the alarm w/pager, cable or anything else won't stop them. That's why I have insurance. Enjoy the trip and don't dwell on anything negative.
