I took a buddy over to local metric shop who is selling a '99 Roadking . He is interested in purchasing it. Shop is asking 12900.00. I'm a Dyna owner and know nothing about this bike. I looked bike over and didn't see any type damage or abuse. The bike only has 5500 miles and needs a good detailing. The bike looks good so I'm asking for a little help on cost of this type Harley so I can let him know. Thanks for any advise -Stay Safe
Average NADA retail for a 1999 Roadking is 11,405. Could be higher or lower depending on goodies, condition, mileage, etc. Depending on what the shop has in it, it can probably be had for no more than 12,000. You said that it needed a good detailing, so I would guess that it is not a real shiney looker right now. I would go for 11,500 to start.
Is the bike completely stock down to the A/C and pipes? Is it carb or FI?
I would be willing to bet that, with only 5500 miles, the cam bearings/tensioner shoes are original. This could be a problem and should be addressed as soon as possible. Going to a gear drive cam kit solves both problems. The S&S install kit includes the new style cam bearings. Does the bike start easy, run good, throttle response good, etc? Parts alone for a gear drive conversion are going to run between $550 - $700 depending on the deal you can find.
I just sold my '99 RKC for $12K. It had a lot of work done to it (95", 18" wheels, etc). You just can't expect to sell a well optioned bike for more than a stocker anymore. These first year TC's are not easy to move because a lot of people are scared of them. They really are a decent bike, they just need a little more up front TLC than the newer models. I didn't bother to look what part of the country you are from, but I would think you could get it (or one like it) for between $11K - $12K.
AMA/Black Book plugs it as avg. retail of 13,365 assuming it's a std. FLHR. A Classic goes up a grand according to book, the last couple of years, HD dealers had leftover Classics, but not standards. If book is reasonably accurate, it generally means RK people ride 'em and RKC people "collect" them and are genarally in an income bracket where if they can't get the amount they want, they just keep it. Our Vespa clientele are considerably worse, you can't believe what people want for a 5 year-old 50 that sold for $2999.00!!!

Blue book is useless now that supply of new and used has skyrocketed, that bike will be lucky to break 10k on a good day, check your local ads many good buys out there right now. Also its the worst year for a twin cam, bigger problems that year with cam bearing and support plates than any year, leave that dog alone and hunt a better year 01 and up.
