Took a ride with the OEM 12" shocks, but changed the stock oil out to the Amsoil Shock Therapy 10# - - very interesting, I maintained my normel 12# air setting (180lbs. rider, with and without tour pack, ROAD - bumpy patched asphalt with wooden bridges, fast high banked curves with newly paved asphalt, and some concrete interstate stretches). The ride was better - the shocks never bottomed out The ride was smoother and the dampening was improved. The shocks seem to work better with the 7.3W Amsoil.

i-click's fork oil change was a breeze, got it done so fast I had time to make another test ride today. 10.5oz came out of left fork, 10.7oz came out of right fork - - I did have to pump them a few times 33,000 on the bike, no prior fork oil change I added 10.7oz of Amsoil 10# Shock Therapy in each fork.......I don't sell Amsoil, never before used this stuff...I'm a Redline Junky don't ask....Mobile 1 in everything else for the last thirty-five years - - great stuff.

Now with the shocks and the forks fluids changed to what I understand is a 7.3W oil - - Oh what a difference. I'm very pleased. The forks were vastly improved - - dampening was now more timed and not so out of phase, still could get the forks to dive on sudden stops but the effect was smoother allowing the bike's weight shift to be slower - good thing. The bike feels better than it did new.

Tomorrow I will swap to the 97C, 13" shocks with OEM Oil and see how they feel.............

i did that on my road king and went with the straight se heavy and was very pleased with the result. been wanting to do it on my new bike, but it's a lot more complicated to get to the fork caps on the road glide so haven't quite gotten around to it yet. only been putting it off for 15000 miles

Default Conclusions

I have now ridden both the 97C and the 09, 13" OEM shocks on my '08 FLHX.

Prior to installing I drained and measured OEM shock fluid.....would you believe 10oz. on all 9oz. in one...put the OEM fluid back in (topped off the other), love using my press. Begain the process of riding and coming home and changing shocks back and forth

Findings: The '09 shocks are faster in all riding situations, all most like my OEM 12" shocks on steriods without bottoming out, a bit softer feel - very comfortable for touring I would think. I like them, just wish I new for sure why the MOCO say's, NO! DO NOT USE THESE 09 SHOCKS ON '08 and EARLIER MODELS! okay,,,,Hummm - - I love guidance, any informative opinions about MOCO's wisdom on this topic?

The 97C shocks were a nice surprise, they did give me a smooth and dampened ride compared to the 09 or the OEM 12" shocks. They also never bottomed out on my test runs. Adjusted the pressure down and they felt great. I am going to run them stock for awhile and then change the fluid, not sure what weight yet.

please remember I ride solo - always, my bike is set up for me - 180lbs., plus tour pack/gear at times. So my findings are based on the bike having very little weight on it - it's of course designed for much more.

This has been a fun mod that I will continue to tweak and mess with. What fun.

they were made for the new frame, stiffer handling ect. the 08 frames are ddifferent and use a softer shock.
