I've got an 09 road king with 2400 miles and about $4000 in extras. In thinking about trading it in on a 2011 Electra Glide classic. The Classic is brand new and bone stock. Would it be worth trading up towards it? I would lose about $3k doing the trade. I'm wanting a tour-pak, would it be better to just buy a pak and install it on the road king?
How would you lose only 3k? I would imagine the absolute best u could get for your bike would be 16 and otd on the new bike has got to be at least 20 or 21 right? And count on wanting to do something to the new bike for minimum 2k. So we are at 6k now.....(I do the same kind of math when I want to justify a purchase, ur not the only one!) It comes down to your financial situation, if your making payments, no way, but if its a cash transaction, if u can afford it why not? Personally I think it doesn't get better looking than a rk.

I meant to type $5k, so after looking at it that way its looking better for me to just keep it.
Adding a tourpak would be A LOT less expensive, that's for sure.
Not sure if you are in a real hurry to get the tourpak, but there is always a used one on the "for sale" section. You really do have to be quick to react, but within time, there will be one for you. and usually for a really good price. You may have to have it painted locally, but in the end you will still come up saving a ton of $$$$.
Depends on how badly you want the EG, and the amount of financial pain you are willing to suffer to get it. You can improve the trade-in loss by removing any accessories from the RK that will transfer over to the EG, since the accessories won't get you a higher trade-in value from the dealer.
The system is stacked against you...... Anytime you trade a 2 or 3 year old bike, that you have added thousands of dollars in extras...... YOU GONNA GET STUCK WITH A BIG
FINANICIAL LOSS WHEN YOU TRADE. It comes down to just how bad you want a new
bike and are you able to withstand the loss in money. Sell your bike and buy outright
is the best way to go.... you still loose, but just not as much...................hdman
