It's your choice you want to trade in or buy the Tour Pak for your RK. You got to write down Pro's and Con's when it comes down to spending your money.

I absolutely had the very same reason as you way back in Fall '08. Had '06 RKC for 3 years with no problems. Truly loved the RKC, but needed more storage space. Checked out the price of purchasing the Tour Pak along with additional costs of painting and accessories. Also checked the price on trading my RKC towards to Ultra.

Also, My commitment on riding was another factor. Wasn't a real hard decision though after making my final conclusion to upgrade and keep the '09 Ultra for a long time.

Not one regret ever since...Good Luck.

I've been "looking" also. I have an 09 Road King w/$2000 in mods and have been toying with the idea of a Tourpak also. I already have the 4 point detach hardware so I figure by the time I'm done with the pak, backrest, quick mount rack and rack for the top of the pak, I'd be investing another $2000. I've come to the conclusion that a trade in would be to costly. I'd loose the money for my mods as well as a little depreciation and the time I've spent making the bike mine (comfort factor - seat, bars, etc.)
The wife LOVES the Ultra Classic, but by the time I would get done I figure between the bike and new mods needed I would be spending another 7-10 thousand. For now I'll probably just invest in the tourpak and ride the he** out of it.

2400 miles. Its still brand new. Order the TP from a 20% off on line dealer. Install it yourself as its easy. It won't cost any 2K either. I did my 08 for around $1100. If you really want a fairing. Look for a used 1 and get it painted to match. Best of both worlds. Basically the same bike. Now go put some miles on that bike and enjoy it. I think the Road King is the best ride in the touring line.... except maybe the Shark nose.

Why trade? You don't seem to ride enough to warrant the need for a tour pak. If I was in your shoes I would trade down. You can do 2400 miles on a sportster in 2 years.

Add a tour pack to yours. Being you already have a '09 you have the new frame. There must be other factors you're thinking about that would have you thinking about trading in or up.

My thoughts exactly. I can do that on my KLR650.

Stick with the KING! Have you ridden an EG?

Have you read the posts of the guys with EG/SG complaining about the buffetting problem? There's an awful lot of them on this forum FYI

Also, once you have a fairing on an EG/SG you better like it - because that's the only choice you have....You can always add a fairing to a KING and remove it if you like - and you can even run without a windshield if ya like!
Try that with an EG/SG

Get yourself a painted chopped tour pack from HD
