Had a nice ride yesterday evening.Finished it off with the shifter not working.
Looks like maybe I got a internal problem with maybe a shifter fork or such.I'm
going to limp it over to the mechanic tonite.I told mama with over 51,000 miles
in less than 4 years no telling how many times I've changed gears.Had the main
bearings changed last year so maybe it won't be too bad.I love this bike not
really ready to trade.Best part being it's paid for.
Did you check to see if the shifter link on the main trans shaft is tight. I have seen a bunch of post on here about that. The splines strip out if the shifter link on the trans side is even a little loose, hard to believe the trans is screwed up unless all the oil leaked out. You also might want to check your clutch pack may need adjusting.

Clutch adjustment is fine.I thought at first it was one of the the shifter ends broke,
but the shifter seems fine.I'll look at the shifter link. With engine off I can get 1st &
2nd,with motor running it won't come out of 1st.
Mine has gotten hard to shift from time to time, and I take the shifter linkage apart, get some emery cloth and sand the rust off, grease it back up and reassemble and it has fixed it in the past. A buddy of mine thought his transmission was going out and he did this and it fixed his too.
I hope you find out what the problem is. Keep us posted. Also, good idea on keeping the bike. Even a new transmission is less than buying an entirely new bike.
I hope it is a simple fix but if not and depending on how deep your pockets are you might want to look at Baker. I know they were working on a rebuild kit for the 6 speed. Is 07 a 5 speed? If so they make a rebuild kit for that.
If your pockets go deep enough take a look at the 7 speed. I have one in my 08 FLHX.
