You asked for thoughts, IMO the harley branded IS33 is sharper looking than the Shoei. If im going shieldless I wear a half helmet. Having had both, I can say the IS33 offers better sound protection/isolation than the CL33. FWIW a DOT rated helmet saved my butt once and it wasn't SNELL rated

My 3/4 Shoei RJ Platinum R is my primary helmet year around. It's an outstanding helmet in every way and very comfortable. It also vents really well.

I like my "Buck Rogers" IS-33. Very lightweight and comfortable, if not ever-so-stylish!

I can attest that a good DOT certified helmet will do the job. I have a 3/4 Fulmer, and the Skid Lid I had my accident with and it performed up to DOT standards. The left side of the helmet was scarred up pretty bad, but it stayed on and my head has no injuries at all. Snell is good at what they do, but there are some real good helmets DOT certified only I wouldn't hesitate to buy. JMO

I use Nolan 3/4 DOT and wife has Arai 3/4 both Snell and DOT but it is sort of expensive but real good helmet specifically for UC communication.

Best of both worlds. I do have a couple of half helmets and when it is 90+ out and I am not going far...I wear a half helmet (my bad). On the other hand on rides like tomorrow...going to Rolling Thunder in DC from Atlanta, I will be wearing this....functions both FF and 3/4. Shark Evoline II Moovit. Certified both DOT and ECE 22.05.
