Ok. I just did a refill on my first tank of gas on my 2009 FLHP 103". I had the bike for about a month now. I only ride it to work and back and an occasional cruise. It has 12,000 miles and had the 10,000 mile service back in july last year. So i only put 179 miles on it so far. And the way I figure my gas mileage is to fill the tank up to the rim almost and ride it out. Then I fill up to the approximately the same point (5 gal.) and check the amount of gas it took. I used the mileage I started and re-filled and came up with about 36MPG. I was really hoping around 40 plus.
Is there some things I can check to see what could be causing the low gas mileage? This is a complete stock bike.

Check the condition and gap of your spark plugs. Then check your air cleaner filter and see if it needs cleaning or replacing.
My '10 RK 103" gets between 39-46 mpg so far with 6K miles.
Thanks. Maybe I will just replace the plugs. Seems it won't hurt. Sorry my tank is 6 gallons to. I just put 5 in there because that is what I did to refill it. I had a gallon left in reserve i guess.
What kind of driving are you doing?
My RK 103 with 1200mi gets about 36 city/hwy combined. I'll get 40+ on the hwy.
I also have a heavy wrist on the throttle.
How are you doing your math. I noticed you said you fill it up to the rim and ride it out. Even tho its low you may still have a half or even a full gallon left in the tank. You have to calculate the next full tank cause if your dividing the mileage by 6gallons your cutting yourself short. Divide the miles by how much you actually put into the tank at the next fill up.

That is what i did. I filled up and it was 5.053 gallons on the gas pump. I clocked 179 miles before the fill up. So I divided those figures to get MPG. Pretty straight forward. And the end result was 35.58 or 36 to round off.
I get bad gas milage when I ride to work and back, couple miles from my house, around 36 mpg. On the highway I get around 40 mpg with the wife as a passanger.
On my 98 RK I got about 33 MPG ... only an 80" to pull all that metal down the road? Always feel like I have to give it a good twist to get up and go. My point is it depends on the rider and his or her habits
