Default Help with Cam choice

On older Harleys, I've changed cams and carb jets but I know nothing about EFI.

I have a '09 FLHR.

I want "Hold On" power from 2k to 6500 rpm. What Cams do I want and which EFI Programmer is the best currently offered for this?

I'd check out Fuel Moto's site on cams. Here's the link: http://www.fuelmotousa.com/cams.htm

The Woods TW555 cam looks like a real performer. Here's the link for the Dyno sheet for a 96 inch, stage 1 air cleaner and mild exhaust: http://fuelmotousa.com/2010tw555.jpg

As far as tuners go, the new Power vision to download direct looks promising. Here's the link: http://www.fuelmotousa.com/powervision.htm

Wow, this will get interesting. As far as cams, I don't think you'll find a complete do-it-all cam. Some work well below 3k rpm, some work great 3k-4500k and some work well above that. Get a cam that works best with your riding style and that's something you don't mention??
As far as tuners? A PCV from FuelMoto will come with life time map support and excellent customer service. A SEPST (H-D) will come with the ability to be tuned at most H-D shops (but tuner ability may be an unknown). TTS Mastertune units come with great support. Many other plug/play units such as ThunderMax are also available. Good luck in your search(es).....

For me, I am already at a stage 1 so my next move will be putting in Fueling 525's. I have heard nothing but good about them. Call them and ask them, they will tell you about their products. The guys in my area have good maps for them that will work with my PC-V that I got from FM, and I shouldn't have to dyno.

You will hear a lot of support for Woods,( I was going to put in the 6'6s) but most their products need a "bump in compression". Even Bobby Woods says that, or has at least told me that. Next after that I was going to put in Andrews 48H's, much like the SE 255's, but do not fall off quite after 4200, so after looking into it, this is what I've decided to do and going to go with it. I wouldn't mind having a Rev Performance for a tuner either, but if I can make my PC-V work with already established maps I will go that direction from an economical stand point. Good luck!!

aftermarket cams are a good improvement to the twincam and you'll find pretty much anyone who's gone away from the stock cam is happy with what they chose. In the SE department the 255 and 204 are popular, woods the 555 or the 6-6.... I talked wth Bob Wood and his reccomendation for a stock compression 96" was the TW 5-6. That's what I went with and I'm happy......

you won't get "hold on" power by just adding a bolt in cam.

In fact, seat of the pants wise, you probably won't feel much difference at all. Bike will probably sound louder though so the "fart can" effect may work for you.

I've had thundermax 575's, Woods tw-7h, Woods tw-555's - all excellent torque cams but I ran different builds with each. I also had se-255's, found these very mild but my setup was only stage 1 at the time - I would love to try these in my 106" to see how they performed. Good luck with your choice!

With the change in cams, the difference was very pronounced. Seat of the pants and on the dyno sheet. The bike no longer strained at higher speeds and the overall characteristics of the powerband improved. The stock cams are required due to EPA to be full of compromises. The high flow air cleaner, the exhaust and tune made a lot of difference but the cam change woke it up to the point that my clutch started slipping at full throttle in 6th gear above 90 mph. All I'm saying, the cams do make a difference.
