While I was out on my 2005 Ultra Classic yesterday one of the Redstone Arsenal guards informed me that my headlight was off. I checked it out and discovered I had a working high beam, working auxillary lights, but no low beam. I replaced the 9003 bulb with another and still no low beam. At this point I suppose the next step will be to remove the front half of the fairing and start tracing back wires to see where the issue is at.
Anyone have tips for me other than just following the wires back?
Thanks!
I'd check and make sure the Hi/Lo Relay was working right. Does your Hi Beam go out when you switch between Hi/Lo. Also, your passing lights go off as well when you are in Hi Beam mode if it is still factory.
I would pull the bulb and see whether there was power at the low beam connector then check the switch. I don't have a diagram as to whether the aux lites and low beam have the same feed from the switch. If they do then I would suspect a problem where they split to feed the different lites. If they are separate at the switch then you have a bad wire to the low beam itself. A continuity tester will confirm that.

Wow! Someone who looks at a problem rationally and comes up with a plan for identifying the problem. My hat is off to you....I love common sense.

WOW...I work on Redstone Arsenal to...What bldg you in? I am at SED 6260....Sorry for invading this thread...
OK, at this point I have removed the front fairing and disassembled the switch. If I 'work' the switch I can get the low beam to ocassionally flicker on. I see the one comment by 'Newt' concerning a relay, and have not yet checked that. I will look into that and see if that could be an issue either as to connection or operation.
The one thing that is an issue is that the high/low beam switch seems to be part of the wiring harness for the left side. I am NOT looking forward to that if it is necessary to be replaced.
Thanks for the advice & I will post what I find out to possibly help the next person.

Your switch is in the fairing? Guess I misunderstood, my headlite switch is on the left hand control. My aux lite switch is a toggle and I don't have a fairing. Please disregard what I posted,
