Bought a new 07 Mirage Orange Road Glide and I have been working on my chrome fixation. Anyway, just bought a Clearview Windshield and need some advice on removing the old windshield. Do I need to take the fairing off to change the windshield? Is it as simple as unscrewing the screws on the front of the windshield? Do I just loosen the grommets and pull?
Thata a pretty color.I assume you did not get a shop manual? I don't have a glide but I think thats about it. Did you get any instructions with the new windsheild? Have shop manual at home for 05 touring bikes and I imagine that part is the same but I am at work now and I am sure somebody will get on here before I get home and tell you what is involed. If you do a search on here you should find the info.
My son ordered him one suppose to be shipped the 25th so he should have it sometime first part of Nov. I think he is getting black pearl color. Already got some accesories in from Zanottis https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/partLookUp.html good place to get you a shop manual and save you some money.
How do you like that bike? I done told him that if he needs to replace the windsheild on it Clearview is a good one from what I have read about them.
And welcome to the site. This is the place for all you want to know about Harleys and then some.
First, get the service manual for your Glide. Second, just remove the five screws around the base of the winshield to replace it. You don't have to remove the fairing to change the windshield.

The windshield is held on by those screws that expand rubber wellnuts in the fairing. Don't worry, just forge ahead. Remove the center one LAST. Start at one end, remove the screw and then go to the other side and remove the corresponding screw, and so on. You'll not lose anything, and discover the whole assembly. Simple.
Just do it! You'll be amazed at how simple it is.....just take your time with the reinstall. And install the center one first!
Becareful not to over tighten the screws when you put it back on. If you do, you'll suck those little rubber wellnuts right inside the fairing. I know this from experience .. I had to go a little bag of them from the dealer after the first time I took it off to try my new "wind deflector". You can't tighten them down like a metal nut on a bolt. Try it, you'll get the hang of it.
Good to go - Got the new Clearview windhsield on there. Only problem I had was that some of the grommets did fall into the fairing but they sent a new set with the windshield and I am good to go. Even test drove it - works siginificantly better than the stock shield. Much less wind buffeting. Had a real enjoyable lunch ride.
Now the next big project - new pipes and Stage 1.
Those rubber peices will eventually find their way out of the fairing. Glad you were able to get the Clearview on without any difficulties. Stage I is a good start.....choose your exhaust carefully.......don't be in too big of a hurry....there isn't a very big selection out there for '07 models yet.
