Ok, so after about 250 miles yesterday and another 100+ today I decided that I want highway pegs. I stopped by my local dealer (open on Memorial Day) and picked up the adjustable highway peg mounting kit and new pegs. The whole install went fine except for the little D washer that is supposed to fit where the peg mounts to the mounting kit. It just wont fit. Without it, the peg flops around and is certain to rattle when I ride. Does anyone know the trick to making this work?
I agree that the instructions are very simple. That is why it's frustrating. But, it sounds like more than one had to resort to a hammer to get it to go. I'll give the rubber mallet thing a try when I get home tonight. Hopefully, I will re-post with success!
Got em installed with the assistance of a little blunt force. And no, Geezer, I didn't scratch the chrome! Now, if the pouring rain will stop, I can try them out.
For future reference -- I always got it "started" fine -- It was getting it *perfectly* lined up to install the bolt that was the PITA.
Once it's "sort of" in there, you can put a round screwdriver in and tap it (the screwdriver) gently with a hammer going around the hole -- That will seat the peg and washer perfectly so you can get the bolt in easily.
