Default My road king is sputtering

Any suggestions... Feels like I'm running out of gas from first to second to third... Then it picks up, accelerates...sputters... And once above 40-50 mph it's fine... Seems there's an air/fuel issue or fuel cleaners issue... Or fuel grade...?? Not sure what the issue is and not a mechanics...just a Harley owner and want to take a few suggestions before I ake it in and get ripped off...maybe is an easy foxy with a few additive?

Any suggestions as to what I should try?

It's a 2002 ROAD KING CLASSIC

thanks!

CM

there is a hose in the gas tank that wears through on some bikes..if the problem goes away when you fill it up, thats the sign that the hose needs to be replaced..also maybe, water in the gas or a dirty fuel filter...thats my guesses...

Carb or EFI?
Stock Or modified?
if modifies, what has been done to the bike?
Have you done any recent upgrades before this started?
Sounds like a fuel issue to me. need some more info in order to help you.

Default No modifications on bike...

I haven't done anything to the bike... The sputtering happens at every fuel level... Seems to hesitate out of first gear and actually stalled the other day when I started out when the light turned green...never happens...

I put a fuel stabilizer in to see if it helps.... Do you recommend hi grade ALWAYS in the bike... With gas the way it's been I've put reg and mid grade... Should I stick to hi set always?

I'm thinking of akin it down to dc but hesitate with the recent sputtering...

A friend says he used chevron techron and got 3-4 mil more pg and performance improved distinctly. Anywa thoughts on fuel additives in general?

Thanks!

Have you ever checked/changed the fuel filter?

For my 06, the MOCO recommends 91+ octane, I always run the highest grade available @ my fill ups. $.020/gal difference, that is just one dollar more at a fill up if are are completely empty. Not that big of a deal to me, rather run the proper fuel and run efficiently then save a few cents.

As for fuel additive, I like seafoam, you can get it a any auto store and even at Walmart. It does a good job cleaning your fuel system.

A 2002 RKC should be fuel injected. The first thing I would do is check to see if you have any fault codes.

The next thing is to check the battery connections, all 4 of them. Funny as it may sound, it's been the reason for problems reported here before.
