Default Fuel spraying inside gas tank

I have a 2008 Road King Fuel injected. When I open the gas cap and look inside then turn on the ignition I see fuel spraying around in there. Is this normal or do I have a fuel leak inside the tank? I'm asking because I get coughing and exhaust popping when my bike heats up.

You shouldn't see any gas spraying around in there. Sounds like you have a leak.

common on 08 fuel pump housing, fuel lines rub through as well.

d_slat Sheboygan. Your right up the road from me. Thanks. I've also heard that the spraying is a pressure release to keep the correct fuel pressure. Could that be true?

wouldn't that be the pressure relief bleeding off excessive fuel?

You’ve got a pin hole in the line from the fuel pump to the throttle body. Fairly common problem a few years back.

Replace the line and consider replacing the filter..if I recall correctly, the fuel filter kit contains the hose

yep, sounds like pinhole in the fuel line as IronAss pointed out, pretty common apparently.
