Default lost fob

Friend went on a ride, he keeps his fob in the saddle bag, son gets coat from saddle bag and must of brought out the fob with the coat, Bike starts and they ride 75 miles stop to rest, bike won't start, had to be trucked home. tried to retrieve code using manual, nothing shows up in odometer window. Calls piece of **** Harley dealer, they want to know where he bought the bike, NOT There, things go down hill from there. They tell him they can get him a new fob and program it for $65.00, After callling around,he calls them back and now they tell him he will need a new module for $150.00 more. So Question is If you loose you're fob and don't have any Idea what you're code is Do you have to replace the module?

You can change the code yourself anytime you want. Just read the owners manual, it explains everything.

That's true, but you have to know the original code first. If he changed the code and cant remember it then he very well may have to buy a new module.

When you go on your merry way with out a care in the world, you will have to pay the consequences. Be responsible, know your code, know the procedure or buy a Honda and use the key.

Looks like he isn't interested in security or he wouldn't have the fob in the saddle bag. So he should just buy a standard TSM module.
And yes you need the code or I believe the number from inside the FOB on 07 and newer bikes.
My dealer made a point of saving the numbers from the FOBS and included copies the Fob numbers with the paperwork when I purchased the bike. To prevent the scenario your friend is going through.

If your friend bought the bike without getting the code, and then he rides with the bike's only security device in the saddle bag, he deserves what happened to him. You've got to take some responsibility for yourself. Obviously his back-up plan was to have the bike towed and the module replaced. Why have security installed if you're not going to use it properly?

My thought exactly, why just go and think you could ever have a problem. And why would anyone keep a fob in the saddle bag? So when I call this friend and chew on him awhile, is the price of a new module about right at $150.00 plus programing a new fob and labor added in?

Agree, everyone should know their FOB code. I set mine on my birth date that way I'll never forget the code and no thief is going to know my birth date.
