Does a new K&N air filter need to be oiled right out of the box, or just after it's been used for a while?

Thanks

Most K&N air filters come pre-oiled. Just clean when dirty and re-oil.

For the 2014 SE STG 1 element, the K&N has a direct replacement. HD-0818 that is an exact cross reference to 29400019. The SE element as noted is paper/synthetic and will breakdown within 1 to 2 cleanings. The K&N is a cloth based element with a metal mesh overlay. Last forever and can take several cleanings without damage. Can't go wrong with K&N filters.

I have the screaming eagle ventiltor Air Cleaner breather and use the K&N cleaning materials to clean the harley filter that came with it. I take the filter out and clean it when I change the oil. Iv'e done this six or seven times already with no issues. I ride my bike pretty much everyday. Rain or shine and the HD filter looks fine.

I've had the same experience with the Ventilator's paper air cleaner. No problems, have washed and re-used it many times. I replace it every 10-15k with a new one, just wash and re-use it every 3k.
