Default Primary chain

Hey fellers and ladies, I have an 05 Electra Glide Standard with 17,000 miles on it. Do I need to adjust the primary chain tensioner? How do I do it? I know it is under the middle inspection cover. How do you move the shoe up to tighten the chain? Does it have a screw that makes the shoe go up or do you just loosen a screw and push the shoe up? Thanks in advance guy and gals!!

5/8 to 7/8" free play on cold engine. Top center nut above shoe needs to be loosened to adjust. Once you have it where you want, tighten to
21-29 ft-lbs torque.

Buy a service manual for about $50.00....Even I can do some of the basic stuff using the manual....Pictures help!

Above instructions are pretty good. If you loosen the nut too much the shoe can drop all the way down which can give you an oh **** moment. Not a huge deal if it happens, you can get it back up. Yeah, that's what she said.

Then when you scratch together $100 or so, get the automatic chain adjuster, ( M-6 or the new hydraulic,) and never worry about it again.
