So I'm looking at a 2008 FLHTP...
I have some questions. I currently ride a 2006 XL1200L. I'm considering getting this Electra Glide Police model. My questions are, what are the differences between the police model and non-police? It does not have a radio, just an opening. Does it have to be an HD radio or any marine grade radio and speakers will do? What else would I need to get the radio running? Is there anything else I need to know about police models? Thanks.

I have an 09 FLHTP I have ABS 103 ci motor. It has an oil cooler as standard equipment and stronger charging system than non "P" bikes. I believe the 08 had the 103 ci motor also. ABS isn't standard but it's a great option. If you can find an 09 I highly recommend getting the 09 for several reasons. First, the new frame and wider tire are awesome. Second, the 09 has the new frame and old (non-Catalytic converter) exhaust. As for the radio, Biketronics makes a kit for install that includes the radio and speakers for about 450 bucks. I stand corrected, just checked 310 bucks. If your even a little handy the install should take about 3 hours and on the police bikes there are a lot of extra wires running to the fairing(on my bike a whole unused harness.) Here's the link:

I have this radio and it functions well. I went with the upgraded speakers and powered hidden antenna.

You may also want to check out a site dedicated to Police Bikes http://www.retiredpolicebikes.com/Forums/index.php
It may have specific info for the 08 FLHTP. If the bike your looking at still has the air ride seat, Mustang makes Pillions to match the leather. I love my air seat and relocated the air tank to the right saddlebag. Very comfortable for long rides.

Thanks for the links and info. Apparently I "fat fingered" when posting. It is a 2009. They have two, 16,000 miles for $14,500 and a 20,000 miles for $13,900. For the mileage does this sound like a bad deal or about average?
These two bikes have badlander seats with passenger foot boards installed. They have three more models with the air ride seats. Problem is I'm 5'6" and stand tip toed on the air ride seats. I wish my legs were longer. Thanks.

For $15,000 I got the bike ( standard with the 103", oil cooler, ABS, heavy duty clutch, and some people claim a different tune from the factory but I don't know) with 2200 miles, a hammock seat with backrest installed ( I wanted a backrest and didn't know about the Mustang seat until a month later), highway pegs, 5 year warrantee, and cruise control installed..... that's where I learned a few differences between the civilian model and the cop bikes.....
the cop bikes have totally different wiring harnesses making in impossible to add HD's cruise control without completely rewiring the bike ( and changing out the right side handle bar controls)..... so instead of cruise being a $500 deal it's more like $2000..... but they agreed to install it when I purchased the bike and even after they discovered the $1500 difference they still did it at no extra charge to me..... I got a black/white one, but I just saw a solid black one up there that looked awesome.....
The cop mirrors are love/hate.... I like them, but lots of people don't.
Radios are easy. I use an iPod so I just use the space in the fairing like a glove box, but I've seen kits with speakers and an amp to plug an iPod in to for $150-$400 depending on what you want. Or just use a marine radio if you want an actual radio.
You can't beat the performance for that price, I'm really happy I went with the cop bike....

You may be able to find one a bit cheaper or with less miles if you shop around a bit. Shipping is usually about 500 bucks. So even if you find one some distance away you may save money. I paid 16K for mine Brand New. But that was as a stock police bike. I put about 2k into it and basically have a 103ci Street Glide with a cop seat and extra chrome. I'll have to post some pics came out nice.
