I can't seem to be able to get the default codes from my cruise control. I did the ign on and pushing set switch etc but nothing happens with the light. Anyone tried this with one of the newer (09) c.c.?

 

Have you tried following the procedure for pulling diagnostic trouble codes through the speedometer using the speedometer trip/reset switch with the speedometer in diagnostic mode?

 

You can also test the switch functions:

Easiest way to check all dropout fucntions of your cruise control.

1. bike off, run/stop to run
2. push set/resume to set and hold.
3 with cruise on/off switch to on, turn on bike
4. cruise indicator light should be green, release set switch, light should turn red.
5. push to resume and release, light should turn green then red
6. push throttle closed and release, light should turn green then red
7. push rear brake pedal and release, light should turn green then red
8. pull front brake lever, light should turn green then red
9. on models with a clutch/neutral starter lockout, pull clutch lever, light should turn green then red

whichever switch does not turn the light green, is your bad one.

if light will not turn green at all and you have followed ALL directions and tried multiple times, your set/resume switch is bad.

If light stays green even after releasing set switch, one of the dropout switches is stuck closed, usually the roll off throttle switch. unplug this and try again.

make sure brake light will not turn on without using brakes (wobbly brake lever, stuck rear brake light switch etc.)

The cruise light doesn't come on at all unless I start the bike. Cruise works normally up and down (set/coast/resume) All functions are working except for the fact I can't seem to get the light to come on unless the bike is running or I'm setting the eng management idle.

 

I've been having an issue of the cruise not setting. After reading some of these posts, I decided to go out and check to see if my brake light was on and it was. Now I know why the cruise would not set. I unplugged one of the wires on the rear brak light switch and now the brake light is not on and only the front brake lever will activate the brake light.

I have not ridden the scoot to see if the cruise will set now but may I assume the rear brake light switch is bad?

I have a 2006 RG. I did the test as follow. From 4 thur 8 pass. But 9 didn't. Where is the switch located for the clutch/neutral starter lockout? I try to find it in service manual but no look. Also, I did the cable lash initialization test and that pass.

 

yes, i just got home from dealer for same thing, yer switch is bad, mine, was actually allowing air to enter the system, which is what caused my pedal to go to the floorboard...

you could try some dielectric grease on the switch contacts...it worked for me for awhile

 

Ha, so I was right................told ya to just replace the damn thing

 

yeah, yeahi was going to get new pads and have the system bleed for $184 but, on my way down i started thunkin about the switch again and told them about it and the fact that cruise wouldnt disengage unless the pedal was on the floorboard...then he told me it was only the second one hes seen that was sucking air into the system. huh, who'da thunk that?

 

Your '06 doesn't have the clutch/neutral lockout feature; HD introduced it to civilian bike with the '06 model year.
