Default Can install with no extra top end noise possible?

2011 Ultra Limited (103, not that you didnt know that). Was wondering if installing a cam can be done without ANY extra top-end noise/ticking, etc?

Also, does the amount of lift, and the amount of noise go hand in hand?

On a side note, I rode a buds '05 (?) CVO 103 with a 253 cam and some higher comp pistons....bike had 30,000 miles on it!......the bike had zero top end noise, and ran awsome!!!

I want the extra power a cam gives, but wont do it if it cant run as quiet as that '05 103 CVO I rode!!

Thanks in advance.

Just had a set of 255's put in my 103 by the local HD shop and used the existing push rods. Can't really tell any difference in top end noise but the exhaust is a little louder, a slight lope at idle, and a little better performance. I'm glad i did it.

Mine is as quiet as stock. I think additional noise after a cam change is usually the result of poorly adjusted pushrods or sticking with stock pushrods when adjustables would have been a better idea....

I do not think anybody can guarantee there will be no extra noise if you change your cams. Tolerance vary.

Fast ramp cams make more noise, valve ajustment wont help. Pick a cam with less agressive ramps, less lift gives softer ramps. Though I have heard some of the preformance roller lifters have off set rollers (such as woods) to help with the noise. Dont pick the highest lift cam for a given amount of duration, it will ussually make more noise. Better yet contact the cam manufacture they should be able to tell you which one would suit your needs and still be quiet.
Good luck!!!

Woods 555 with his rollers............exhaust is louder , but engine "noise" is less.
