I did an Ironbutt on my RK last year. The bike was fine, the real challenge was staying awake those last 4 hours! Funny thing was, after I finished and had breakfast I felt great the rest of the day.
I did the 1000 then the 500 more within 36 hours to make 1500miles in 36 Hours. I came home from Sturges, and got home 1 1/2 days earlier than the guys I rode up there with.
Besides the braggen rights..how fun was it really to saddle up for 17 hours a day? Seriously?
honestly it's a lot of fun you don't do it every day or evrry time you ride but some of us get a lot of pleasure (fun per mile) just seeing how many miles we can ride in a certain amount of time.

I actually had a lot of fun for the first 800 miles. Got to ride some pretty good roads (we didn't just run 500 miles down the interstate and back) and see some great views.
After 800 miles we stopped for dinner. The last 291 miles ( we went over) was dark and interstate so that last stretch was the worse.
Taking some back roads cost us some time but I think it made it more fun. It took us a little over 20 hours for 1091 miles.
