Just curious how everyone cleans their dash. I just use a wet\damp rag to try and get in all those little tight places but does anyone put water directly on the instruments. Saw my brother in law go to a quarter car wash and spray the dash as if it where any other part of the bike. He hasn't had problems according to him but it made me cringe just watching him do it. Anyway, your thoughts on the best way to clean all the gauges and inter fairing.
I have never sprayed water directly on my electronics. I've had two Batwing touring bikes and my wife has a 2010 SG Trike. I always use a damp Microfiber cloth with detailer to clean the inner fairing. I think anybody that uses a car wash on anything except maybe the engine fins and underneath is asking for trouble. I know a guy who wiped out his wheel bearings with a pressure washer. Ain't gonna happen at my house!!
High pressure is crazy,I use garden hose to wash bike with a gentle spray. And I just soap and water with wash mit then spray them off,no different than a rain storm.
I spray right on it with the Mr Clean wash system I have. By the way, I don't see any of the products sold for the unit anymore, I am guessing its no longer manufactured?
Damp micro fiber towel or chamois for my painted inner, using the corner of it to get around the gauges. Have never even used a hose on my bikes, much less a pressure washer!
I know, my brother in law lives in Colorado so he has a very short riding season so he isn't in for wasting time washing his bike, which by the way is a Ultra Classic. When we went to the quarter car wash and he broke out the wand and started peppering that dash with that spray gun I got completely lantern jawed. He said, " I do it all the time...what's the difference between this and riding in the rain".
Thanks for the comments. I'll stick to a damp rag.
I use garden hose to wash but they are made to with stand all kind of weather. Have ridden in crazy rain and some snow no problem in last 59K miles and 4 years.
I wash mine like I do the rest of the bike, with my soapy sponge. when i rinse i just point the hose stream at the windshield and let gravity pull the water down to rinse the suds away
I wash it just like I wash the rest of the bike - a good car wash soap, soft terry washcloth, rinse with the garden hose, and then dry with a towel. After it's thoroughly dry, I use a dash dressing like Maguiar's to keep the dash from drying and discoloring.
