I have my 14's as far forward as possible to still use the stock windshield. I put a piece of wire harness convolute on the clutch cable, like others have found it touches the windshield and will get cut on the bracket eventually.
That being said, unless I'm leaving Detroit the windshield is always off the bike.
Have 16" WO on my RKC.During warm weather I like to remove the windshield around town.If I go on any type of long ride, regardless of the temp I keep the windshield on.Bike looks bad with or without windshield.

Looks bad as in cool? Or bad as in you dont like the way it looks?
I use the apes and a windshield all the time in my 2012 RKC and for me that's the only way to go. It's a matter of personal preference, so either way do what is most comfortable for you to enjoy the ride.
I've got 14" apes and a custom 18" windshield (3 inches shorter than stock) from ebay seller "trusted4u2013".
I love the apes - they could be a little further forward, but my master cylinder hits the windshield. I never rode a bike with a windshield before, but haven't had mine off yet - I love it.
I ran 16" Carlini Gangsters for a little while and I still ran my windshield on cold mornings. The key is when installing the bars, put your shield on and set the bars where they should be before you crank them down.
The angle in the pic is where mine needed to be to still run my shield.
