Please double check. I could be wrong but the tank fittings are not 3/4" they are 18mm x 1.50.
Consider avoiding helicoil since you could introduce leaks.
Spark plug thread chaser with some lube is rather inexpensive and my resolve your problem..At least it did for another forum member.

I am going through this exact same f6king thing. The threads are indeed 18mm x 1.50...How "convieniant" NOT. Plus, the dang Goodrige fuel lines I bought are so darn short they dont want to line up right and cause this problem. I am going to try chasing the threads. What a cluster f66k.

I'd put some grease on the thread chaser to help trap any metal pieces coming off the damaged threads.

Can't believe I just responded to a two year old thread, must have been along day at work!

Purchase a Thread Restorer kit. Never use a tap for that job. A tap will just cut new threads, you don't want that.

Maybe you are trying to thread in 3/4x16 threaded lines into a metric 18mm threaded fitting on the tank? That would cross thread one of them every time.

***crap, I just responded also to a two year old thread*** Time to close it out.
