Default Street Glide: Looking for advice

I am looking to move from a Yamaha to a Street Glide. I've been researching Street Glide's for a long time. They are tough to find pre-owned in my market -- private or dealer -- but found one at the local HD that I'm looking at.

2009 FLHX, base with two customizations (CBO tail and two center speakers), but otherwise stock.

Dealer is offering $16,700 (down from $17,900 online, but sticker says %18,900), but the thing has 21,000 miles on it in two years or so. Man, I don't do that in my car. That concerns me -- should it?

Also, how much more room might I have on price? Anything else I might be able to negotiate in, in your experience? KBB says $18,500, but this one has double the expected mileage.

I'm excited to finally get my first HD, but don't want to make a mistake that I'll regret.

Mileage wouldn't concern me at all. I put 28k on my 2008 Dyna in 2 1/2 years and never needed anything but maintenance.

Bought my Street Glide in Feb and coming up on 4k already.

Take it for a ride and decide.

Great platform for upgrades there. Expect to pay more for 2009 and later. The Touring families frame change in 2009, bigger tires, better handling. Well worth a little more.

Mileage is not an issue. I've got nearly 50K on my '08 and the only thing I've done is regular maintenance, battery and tires.

I don't know why anyone would buy from a dealer. There are no deals there ever and you have to pay sales tax on top of that ($1169.00 more @ 7% on $16,700). I drove 10 hours one way to get my 2010 Street Glide. $16,640 with no sales tax. 1900 miles on it. I looked every day in the cycle trader and ebay until I found just the right guy needing to get out from under the payments.

These deals don't come around every day but they are out there. You just have to stay on top of what's for sale.

I've got 30K on my '09 SG. Milage is not an issue. I'll bet if you hunt you can find an '09 with less miles for the same or less money especially if you're willing to travel. There's lots of guys out there who barely get them out of their garage.

Why not look for an Electra Glide Classic and remove the tourpack and perhaps change the rear turn signal. I have had both the SG and now I have the EGC and I am much happier with the EGC as it gives me a little more flexibility. I changed most of the EGC stuff and it is now practically a SG. The price was also a bit better on the EGC.

Depends on where you live on the tax. Doesnt matter if you buy from a dealer or a individual here you still have to pay the tax.

In Wisconsin you pay the sales tax when you register the vehicle. Not sure what sate you don't have to pay sales tax no matter who you buy it from.....

See if they will toss in a 1 year warranty or a maintenance package or,,,,,,
You can get good deals from a dealer if you work them.
