Default Race tuner connection

I recently purchased the Harley Davidson Race tuner for my Electra Glide....I ran into a problem with connecting the tuner to my laptop. The cable for the the connection is a serial port and my laptop only has a USB connection. I have been told by computer people that a USB/Serial port adpater can be purchased....Has anyone ran into this problem and found an adapter that did work...Thanks

I was going to give you the brand & model # for mine, but I just looked it up on the web & it is only available in Europe. I guess I bought it on my last trip. Anyway it does work with my race tuner, but I would bet money you could go to Radioshack, BestBuy something like that & get a Belkin USB to serial that will work. Trust me we use them all the time. The company I work for has Windows based diagnostic software for our engines & the cable to connect to the engines is serial port only. Belkin is one of the most recognized manufatures for these USB adapters world wide.

Yes. I had to find an adapter like that, for a similar reason...

Something like this?<--link

Be careful with buying a serial to USB adapter. They make those with male or female Serial ports.. I needed one like the one shown in that link. male serial to USB

Just wondering why you want to hook your PC to the ECM. The canned maps are so, so at best. Without a dyno you can cause more problems playing around in there. I have a SERT, took a look in there once and chickened out. My SG runs bad enough after 2 dyno tunes without me tinkering with it! LOL!

The dyno option is really what would be best....but recent changes in Californian have made it impossible to have any HD dealer work on any bike with modification that are not compliant......
