i believe the correct why to check the swr is to remove the outer faring and attach the meter directly to the CB and antenna; not in the tour pack... the connections from the radio to the start of the antenna cable should be the usual CB connections

That would be the best way because you would be checking the cable also. It works in the tour pak though.
I used an antenna analizer and meter, both in the tour pak. It was easier that way.

Yesm, the correct way is to plug the SWR meter in line

Radio>SWR Meter>Antenna

Ditto on the ground, but maybe it's a lame question, but do you have the RIGHT antenna in place (not switched)?

Good question. How do you tell the difference on the newer antennas?

Both of the stock antennas look the same but apparently internally they are different. If you look closely at the plastic mount at the bottom you will see CB on one and AM/FM on the other. From what I've read on these forums, mixing them up can damage the CB.
