Default New head pipes needed ?

I have a 2011 FLHRX (Road Glide Custom), and am looking at putting on different mufflers. The HD catalog says you need to buy head pipes to change mufflers. Is this true ? Has anyone changed to Screaming Eagle mufflers without changing the head pipes ?
Thanks,
capt42a

You dont need to change head pipes for aftermarket mufflers. Removing the CAT will help you a lot with the heat though.

You don't have to but you won't be happy. If you change the headpipes and do the Stage 1 it awakens the beast in a major way. Plus, I could not believe the amount of heat it eliminated by removing the CAT.

Actually, if you have a Road Glide Custom, it's an FLTRX.

But anyways, my vote is that you just save up a little bit of money and do a complete Stage 1 upgrade so you can get rid of the catalytic converter and improve your performance. I got my whole Stage 1 upgrade for my RGC for about $1200 and installed it myself.

Why do people always give you the acronym and then tell you what it means. Never understood that one. I guess that's why I'm not the HMFIC.

Stage 1 and get rid of the cat (catalytic converter) (unless you are in Ca. (California)). I have Rush ceramic pipes and V&H (Vance and Hines) monster ovals. Also have a SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner). There is a huge temp (temperature) loss when the cat (catalytic converter) is removed. Especially on hot days. Enjoy!
