Default Got Lucky

Got away with only a scratch... W/B 580 on the way home traffic was stopped so I was legally splitting lanes when a White truck swerved right from the number 1 lane to stop me, which I did, then when he straightened out his vehicle he got my left side fairing and it popped out his right side tail light lens and my bike dropped to the engine guard. I pulled over expecting to exchange info but I look up and the truck is gone still headed west bound on 580! Everyone that rides... Be careful..... I was lucky

Ya, glad to hear you got off lucky. Not a big fan of lane splitting either. It imparts a certain level of intelligence upon vehicle drivers that most of them do not actually possess.

Yep.....in Cali.....the dashes are considered bike lanes in certain situations. I think you are not supposed to go 5 or 10 mph more than the traffic...

When I was stationed there.....it was great....just really have to keep a good lookout and get ready for folks to change lanes on you....

(as evidenced in the initial post) Glad you are OK.

glad your OK. in NYC, it's hard enough to stay alive using up a whole lane. Had many lane hoppers and jumpers that think you move or loose.

"to stop me"

, which I did, then when he straightened out his vehicle he got my left side fairing and it popped out his right side tail light lens and my bike dropped to the engine guard. Some people for whatever reason hate motorcycles and will mess with you if given the opportunity. Have had similar experiences. A red car has my boot print, my buddies boot print, hopefully a dent or two, on his quarter panel. The driver was looking right at me in his rear view and moved into the center of the road. Glad you survived.

in stop and go traffic especially after a ball game, i would rather split lanes than being rear ended by telephone texter. it's not legal in NY, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
