Default Dakota Digital gauges

I found some discussions on the digital gauge pack Dakota makes for the Glide - but has anyone bit-the-bullet and actually bought/installed one? I was hoping for some real life feedback. Do you feel you got your moneys worth? Do you enjoy them more? or should I just spend the $200 on a replacement analog gauge?

My speedo is acting flakey so I was gong to replace it. Then I thought if I take the fairing apart I might as well change the air temp gauge for the oil temp gauge. Then I was thinking of changing all gauges to the spun aluminum face and for only twice the price I could go digital. (I think that's how the rationalization process went) There is a guy with an ebay store that sells the kit for $879 and I asked a bunch of question - but he referred me directly to Dakota. Below is the info. I got, if anyone is interested. How do I post pics?

My email -

I am interested in this 6 gauge dresser package -

HLY-3000-OT 6- gauge kit with Oil Temperature.
Includes these gauges:
HLY-3011 - 3-3/8" Performance Speedometer.
HLY-3021 - 3-3/8" Performance Tachometer.
HLY-3051 - 2-1/16" Voltmeter.
HLY-3061 - 2-1/16" Fuel Level.
HLY-3032 - 2-1/16" Oil Pressure.
HLY-3073 - 2-1/16" Oil Temperature.

I ride a 1998 FLHTCUI - [1)] are these gauges direct replacement or do they require complete re-wiring? [2)] Can the speedo be calibrated at all and [3)] can it be programmed with mileage on it to match what is already on the bike? [4)] Will the speedo work with the stock cable or is a new one required? [5)] Does the oil temperature gauge come with sending unit and everything necessary? [6)] Oil pressure - direct replace? [7)] What about the fuel gauge - will the low fuel light still work if this gauge is changed? [8)] Will the left two gauges fog as the stock ones always do? [9)] These are all waterproof gauges? [10)] Does the speedo require a battery? [11)] What is the warrantee and expected life of these gauges?

[12)] Do you have pictures of these installed in a fairing?

Dom,
[1)] These gauges are a direct replacement and you can just splice into the stock wiring. [2)] The speedo is easily calibrated to nearly any combination of gearing and tire size, only requiring you to get into the setup mode and then driving the bike for 1 mile. [3)] The gauge can be preset with the current mileage that is already on the bike. There is a $20 charge for this service. [4)] The speedometer will require a SEN-1011 to function with the stock 16mm cable. Your 1998 may have the 12mm cable which would require a replacement cable. If you would like to do without the cable, the rear wheel speed sensor (SEN-1018) would be the next best option. [5)] The oil temperature sensor SEN-1043(1/8†NPT)is included in this kit. Adapters may be required depending on where the sensor will be mounted(a bung welded to the oil tank, in-line to a cooler, tapped into the oil drain plug). [6)] The oil pressure sensor SEN-1031 replaces the stock sensor, but will usually require a 45° bushing to angle the sensor away from the push rods, or an extension to clear them. [7)] The display on the fuel gauge will flash when the level goes below 10% remaining. [8)] We haven't heard of the stock gauges fogging and don't hear of this problem from other customers with this gauge set. [9)] All of these gauges are treated with our weather & waterproof conformal coating. [10)] The speedo will not lose memory or data if it is disconnected from the battery or power source. [11)] This gauge kit comes with a limited 2-year warranty and the expected lifetime of these gauges

[12)] I have attached a picture of the previous kit installed on a Klock Werks Kustom Bagger. If you want, we can get some updated pictures to you after one of our newer bikes comes back from the SEMA show next week.

Best regards,

Colin Krull

Sounds like a lot of trouble for little return to me. The spun aluminum ones look good, but the digitals are just different, and not really in a good way. At least to me. Sorta like something you'd see on a metric bike... or a space ship.

I see sets of the spun aluminum, complete on ebay for around 300.00. I think those green readouts look crappy, but thats me.
