Ok guys. I need some help here. I'm not quite sure where to start as I am a noob to mechanical issues with motorcycles.
I just recently put on some vance and hines true duals. I replaced the crush gaskets in between the exhaust flange and exhaust ports on the heads with SE ones from the dealer. I made sure everything was tight and have re tightened the exhaust bolts in the past two days. On top of all of this I received and installed my fuel moto brand pciii. It came preprogrammed, I thought that was cool! Anyway, I am still having an extreme amount of popping on decel and cannot figure out why to save my life!
Like I said, I have re-tightend the nuts and bolts, I have used smoke from a cigarette around the heads to check for exhaust leaks and now I'm out of ideas...is there anything else I should be checking? I figured by now I would have the popping gone but it has not left my pipes.
My thinking may be a tuning problem? I did stall at a red light out of NOWHERE while in neutral... Thank you for bearing with this lengthy post and all of your feedback. Definitely appreciate it!
Mike
P.S- I'm getting roughly 30 mpg? Would tuning have something to do with this?
Same thing with mine. V&H 2-1 w/ PCV, done loaded the map.
Under 2k, extreme back fire, running really lean.
I got my pipes from a collegue, so I looked up the pipes.. He had the baffles punched straight thru, that my be the racing baffles, but...
I ordered the standard baffle and hopefully that will give me just enough back pressure to richen the mix abit and make it a little mo-betta. I'll find out this coming week.
Wait...I just had a really big "oh SH*T moment"....I don't remember taking or throwing out old crush gaskets....damn they much be IN there...? Do you need to like scrape them out of the heads or something? I don't remember taking them out...or having them fall out....the ones I put in fit perfectly in though....
Yep. get a #1 standard drive and pop those bad boys out. Same with oil filters, you always have to make sure the rubber seal from the filter isn't sticking to the case. I did that once and oil gushed to my eye *****.
The new ones you put in may have "cupped" the old ones nice enough for you not to question the fit, and or you put the old ones in backwards as well and then they would have cupped the old one.
Hell, at least you retorqued them......

You not only have to check for leaks around the head but where your mufflers connect. Check the torque on the torca clamps and make sure they are at correct torque and as close to the edge as possible.
When you ordered the pc did you tell them what you were putting on the bike as well as how the air system was set-up.
Decel pop is not back-firing, it happens when you close the throttle not open it.

Good hunting.
I thought I had checked the the leaks around the head...I'll have to double check. Also, I don't have mufflers per se I have the big shot duals...it's all one pipe top to bottom. I did tell them my entire set up...I don't know...gotta rip into it after work and try to start over I guess...lesson learned!
