Distance. Of course you're going to loose some distance but for me it works great for about a mile or so. I don't ride that far away from my riding partners. I don't use the cb for long distance talking. No issues when riding with friends

I do like the looks of them better. The distance isn't too good on any MC antenna system. I hate to sacrifice even one mile. I have needed the extra distance a time or two when separated from the group.

I'd double check the SWR on a hidden antenna. There is alot of interactive metalic junk nearby a hidden setup.

J&M hidden (in Fairing) CB antenna works just fine for group riding. At least it does for me!
