I have an 06 EGC and the cruise control will engage fine sometimes, other times it wont stay on more than a few seconds and other times it wont engage at all. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? My brake lever seems tight enough and Im not mechanically inclined enough to figure anything else out. I hope its not something thats not repairable as I do really enjoy the cc option.
I'm sure it can be fixed, either by you or someone else. I would look at 2 things. First, make sure your brake light isn't stuck "on" when the cruise won't work. If you have a faulty brake light switch the cruise won't work. You may also want to go through the procedure to set your "cruise lash". It's detailed in the service manual. I used to have it on my computer but I can't find it anymore.
On my '03 EG Classic, my cruise did the same thing. I can't remember why for sure. I think it had something to do with my pull back handlebars making a cable too tight. There was a switch on the right side on a wire or cable coming off the handlebars that an indy jumped for me that solved the problem.
Maybe some of the guys know the switch I'm talking about and can get more specific about where it is and what it does.
I had an 03 RKC that the cut off switch on the throttle cable had gone bad. I unplugged one connection and it worked fine. It's located on the throttle cable right before the tank. When the cruise is set, its an open switch and when you roll back on the throttle it closes the switch and turns off the cruise.
The same thing happened on my current bike. I ended up needed a new switch. it would engage sometimes, then sometimes for a few seconds... it was really frustrating. They worked on it for a while, put a new switch on it.... works fine.
Yea, I'd guess it's the decel throttle cable out of adjustment. That seems to be the common cause. I simply unplugged mine and now the cruise control works fine.
Thanks for all the input. Of course i just went out for a 60 mi ride on the superslab to try it out and it worked flawlessly. Yesterday it didnt work worth a $hit!!!!! Go figure.

It's one of the usual suspects when the cruise won't engage or stay engaged. Unplug one of the bayonet connectors and see if your problem goes away.
