Oil light
Yesterday I noticed when I shut my bike(2010 Ultra Classic) off my oil light came on, it went off when I restarted it and stays off when running but now comes on whenever I shut the bike off. Oil level is normal and I read in the owners manual that this is a normal condition as long as it goes off above idle. My question is why has it just started doing this and has anyone else have this happen? The bike has 4800 miles and when I called the dealer about it they said to bring it in.

When you shut the motor off there is no more oil pressure, hence the light coming on. That is good that it goes out when you start it, it means you have oil pressure. I think the switch is rated at 4 lbs, I wouldnt worry about it unless the light starts staying on more and more with the engine running. If it seems like it started happening all at once might be the oil psi switch is on the looser side of the parameter specs of the switch, but with 4800 miles on a new engine thats stock the oil is ready for an oil change, Id try this and see if it changes. Thats what I would do before I inconvenienced myself to go to the dealer, if youre so inclined to do the maintenance yourself.

Appreciate the info bagman, changed the oil to synthetic at 1000 miles and getting ready to due the 5000 maintenance soon. It was just bothering me that it just starting to happen. Thanks again, ride safe.
