Bobby's a member here on this forum; he makes billet docking points for touring detachables which have been known to reduce/eliminate the vibration felt by most passengers. The original HD docking hardware is made of plastic bushings which are prone to breaking and allow detachables to vibrate, causing rider discomfort and fatigue.

Thanks for that recommendation; I'm subscribing to see what other folks may have to say about this. I've had a detach kit on my Ultra's tour pak for about 25K miles and am getting a lot of vibration now, and am assuming the plastic docking points.

I saw that. I've tried to contact him via PM and email with no replies. The payment I sent shows as unclaimed. Hope he's ok. If anyone has a way to contact him via phone, please help. He's my last hope before switching to a permanent mount, which I do not want...

***UPDATE***
I managed to get a hold of him; apparently I got his email wrong. There's a 0 not an o in 440... Good to go!!

The best material that I've encountered is Delrin - it's an industrial synthetic that is used to replace bronze bushings. I had a '07 FLTR with the detachable TP and it went through two sets of HD and one set of Bobby's in 20K miles. I bought a foot of Delrin and machined a set to match the brackets and never had another rattle. I've since done a couple of sets for others on the forum.

There is substantial variance in the brackets, so production bushings are not real tight to begin with. Bobby's are better than HDs, but they still wear (steel vs aluminum - steel always wins!). Delrin does not wear. It also dampens vibration.

Excellent post, and observation on the loose production tolerances. Best idea I've heard so far, delrin is some tough stuff, and you could probably get away with a couple thousandths "squeeze" to firm it up a little more. On my 06 QD backrest and tourpack mounts, the metal sockets are very narrow and they dig in and wear out the plastic OEM inserts quick.
