Leaking from the primary I will be replacing the gasket on mine this weekend for the same reason . It's an easy job , drain it , remove it , replace it , fill it
If you are running different fluids in all 3 holes you might be able to tell. Just buy the HD gasket from your local dealership & correct fluid & follow HD service manual.
Check this out!
I thought I had a primary leak as well but I was wrong.
It turned out to be a leak from the shifter shaft seal, the tip off was the red colored transmission fluid I was using leaked to some white paper I put below the leak area. Sitting on the jiffy stand the fluid runs on the bottom of the primary cover giving the appearance of a primary leak.
Have a good look at the shifter shaft you should be able to see if it is oil wet.
If it turns out to be a shaft seal, Man this becomes a big job to pull all of the outer primary cover, clutch, inner primary cover etc. to fix this leak. I did mine took all day and a couple of trips for parts.
Good luck out there.
You need to look up under the bike, if it is from the transmission or shift shaft there will also be some leaking running down the transmission on the right side of the pulley. If the fluid is running down back of the primary around the left side of the pulley it is more than likely the main shaft seal on the primary bearing pretty common and just went trough it. My bearing had gone bad which in turn took its toll on the seal same size leaking you described plus a little spray of oil along the bottom of the left saddle bag on long rides.
I checked this morning. the leak is hitting the edge of the outer primary. i don't think it could do that if it was coming from behind the primary because the gasket comes out alittle. the liquid would hit it like a wall and i doubt it would reach the out primary case screw. I think now its either a screw or the whole gasket.
I think ill swap it out. sucks because i just changed the primary fluid and derby gasket... oh well.
I slammed pretty hard into a speedbump couple days ago. Im heavy so it felt REALLY REALLY BAD.
any of you think i banged up the primary or something which caused the leak? or does the frame and exhaust take most of the damage? i have fishtail duals
