Default Primary leak advice

Changed out the starter on my 01,and all went well, but low,and behold got a leaking primary.Used a new gasket, and torqued it to spec.Used a torquing sequence out of service manual,Man it;s like reliving my shovel head day's for sure. One thing, that happened, was 2 of my primary bolt's on the allen head seemed to round out,so I got a set of stainless steel one's to take the place,of the whole set. This is one of the thing's in life that seems simple, that can screw you everytime. So I'm going to take her down again, get another gasket, and go again, just alot more careful.Have any of you had this happen to you, what did you do,or didn't do to remedy this>.

just the usual ...both surfaces as clean as clean can be ...I use contact cement or gasket cinch on both the inner and outer also both sides of the gasket ...let it set up and dry then install the gasket on the inner...let that set up till it won't move easily ...then the outer and like you did the sequence from the book and torque as specs say ...have also had prob with the harley bolts and have better luck using allen head sockets that don't have the ball end on them ...I use the ball end ones to spin them in and the old squared off type to tighten I have also had prob with the chromed ones getting the right socket to fit ...end up using a combination of metric and standard which ever one fits the head better .........good luck

No I bought a gasket,from a bike shop,that a friend,owns.Are Harley gasket's the way to go,or what?Also do both of you recommend using a gasket sealer/cement,when doing this,it seem's to be a no brainer,that it should be used.Did I read that you shouldn't use it,or is that a flaskback to something else.>

I had a leak on the bottom of the primary that looked like it was coming from the lowest bolt. But when I took it in to be fixed under warrantee the said it was an o-ring. I think for the starter. They said it's common for that ori
G to get pinched or folded over on assembly

depends on the manuf. of the gasket .......cheaper ones I use contact cement ...$28 harley ones ..no....... make sure there are no nicks or dings on the mating surfaces...if the cover or inner has been dropped or banged and has a mark or dent that'll leak
