Me and my dealer are stumped, so thought I would throw this out to the group. I bought a 4 pt. docking kit, detachable upright/pad, and 2-up rack for my 2011 RKC. The 2-up rack mounts perfectly and comes off easily. However, the backrest does not fit the docking points; it appears the docking points are too wide by about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch or so, so it is nearly impossible to get the upright on, let alone off. The crazy thing is that the upright fits perfectly on another bike they have on the floor, and they have tried 2 different uprights and a new 4-pt docking kit and still the same results. Could it be that my fender is too wide? It's literally the only thing I can think of, and the dealer is completely baffled. Any input would be appreciated.
When I first mounted my 4 point kit the backrest didn't fit. I just set one side in the channel and then pushed the other side out until it set into it's channel. I attributed it to being new and the idea that tighter is better. It has loosened up since then and now slips off and on very easily.
I have the EXACT same issue. I took the two up rack and passenger backrest off the 2009 SG so I could use it on the 2011 RKC. The rack still fits just fine, but it's a B**ch to get the passenger backrest on or off! I had it in for the 1K and went back and showed one of their top techs and he was puzzled, too. He said I could bend the back part of the bracket out a bit and that should make it easy again. Well, I haven't done it yet, but that what I'm going to do. You can bet that if I had added that rider's backrest when I bought the RKC, they would have bent it to fit BEFORE I ever noticed it and it wouldn't have been an issue.
Could you post some pictures? I just installed one on my 2010 Ultra Classic. I had installed some different shocks so I ended up having to add some washers to the shock points but the others lined up great.
Mine is an 07 so I know the mounts are a bit different. I experienced somewhat the same issue with the QD docking kit for my tourpak. However, the instructions do say that you may have to slightly bend the mount for proper fit.
Also, there were various spacers in the kit for the portion that attaches to the fender struts. Possibly different spacers could be used?
