DIY shouldn't be too hard on a bike without fairing.

Thanks. If I need to change cables and wiring I will probably go with the 14s. I'm 6' with long arms was thinking I might get away with current cables and wiring going with 12 1/2s but might just do what I really want once and be done.

I had everything to it myself, figured it would make a good weekend project. While having a casual conversation with my indy (now retired) he said he charged 3 hrs, incl internal wiring the handlebars. Done deal using my parts and a Benny for a tip. If it takes them 10 hrs they are reading the manual along the way. Shop around.

Dealerships have a set price for everything and they just divide it into labor hours, that doesn't necessarily mean it will actually take them that long to do it.

They are just quoting you book rate. One of the boys had his apes installed at the local dealer and he paid the full 10 hr rate plus parts. Read up and do it yourself, take your time. There is quite a few kits if check them out on the interweb thing.

My indy has installed bars on my last 3 bikes. He always charges 4 hours labor and that includes wiring the bars internally. All my bikes have been bat wing fairing equipped so that involves completely removing outer fairing, fairing cap, stereo , etc.

10 hrs, BULLPUCK, no way. Check with an indy. I am 5'11" chenging my bars right now. Went with WO 509s, 16". I changed everything, even new wires. It takes awhile, I am not a mech, but just take your time, read the manual. I read on here somewhere about using baby powder to run new wires. I wrapped and taped some 14 gauge wire around the ends, pushed and pulled a little. The new wire went right thru, no problem at all. Just have baby powder still coming out of the bars. I plan on having them done this weekend, I will make time somehow. Just read and follow the manual. I would go with 16s for your height, you will not regret it.

Thanks steel city. Can you post or send a few pics when you are done. Would love to see the 16s. Just don't want the bike to look like all handlebars...

Thanks
Joe
