dunlop or metzler tires for my electra glide
I've had Metzeler 880's on another bike and they were awesome tires, but as others have said I think Dunnies last longer. Just put an E3 on the rear of my EGC 1500 miles ago and love it. Big reduction in squirm on tar snakes, road irregularities, etc. They're cheaper than the stockers and they're supposed to wear longer...
Dunlop Elite 3 MU90-16 rear, MT90-16 front. Do a search here, as there are plenty of testimonials.
just rode the "snake" hwy 421, in the rain last month with the 880's. I did not hold back much. They are fairly new with about 1500 miles at the time. They work very well and I had complete confidence in them.
When I got my '00 Fatboy I hated the stock Dunlops and replaced them with Metzlers which were much better but milage was a bit of a problem. When I got my '09 Street Glide it had the newer Dunlop D407's. After replacing the D407F with the D408F, I was really happy with them. So much so that I replaced them with 18" D408F/D407 when I replaced the wheels. They have a harder compound in the center for better milage and softer compound on the sides for better grip in turns. IMHO they grip like the Metzlers and I get great milage out of them.
Elite 3 vs. Metzeler? It's a no brainer, IMO. Dunlop wins hands down. I've never been able to get more than 6,000 miles on a rear Metzeler and handling is pretty much the same between the 2.
The last E3 I had on a metric bike, I got > 8,000 miles out of it. That's riding 2-up 99% of the time and the roads in PA are very tough on tires.
The D407 I had on my 09 Ultra lasted 11,275 miles and had 2/32 left when I replaced it last week.
