my HOG chapter just did a 2,500 mile trip from MO to Niagara Falls into Canada and back.
Yes, it rained a LOT. No, it was not such a bother except changing routing a bit.
Air Hawk 2 made the ride most pleasant.
Board scraping is not dangerous, you bike can lean safely further than you think. Look at ridelikeapro.com and see the vids he has on the site and youtube
GREAT to see all of us getting out rain or shine to do what we love, riding!!!
congrats on a great trip
I just got back from Niagara Falls (Bike trip from PA) we took the long way through the finger lakes (stopped at some winery's on the way) and came home via PA rte 6. This was my first long trip on my HD as well.
When were you there?
Left Sunday, pretty much just passing through Niagra to Toronto. Back yesterday.
Drove back via 400S, 20A E, 390S, 86E...loved it..
Agreed...good to see a riding thread....My little group started doing long rides 3 years ago, typically 2500-3000 miles round trip...and needless to say we have all learned alot and seen some great country. I prefer the subdowner seat for long tours...comfortable for me and the wife, I never pass on the right, cruise control has the same effect on my as I don't feel I have the control but I am adjusting to it, rain is annoying but fine if you take proper precautions, G4 is awesome, get some highway pegs to allow yourself some different riding positions, luggage is a must, mesh jackets are great, slow look lean roll works if you execute it correctly.....see you out there!
I do have highway pegs...not very comfortable with them yet, with the wind at 85mph...need more practice with SLLR...
Cycle Pedic Touring Seats offers riders and passengers the ultimate in comfort by taking pressure off the prostate and tailbone area. Using multiple levels of comfort including: memory foam, mold injected polyurethane foam, shock absorbing gel polymer, and a channel for the prostate/tailbone, Rush guarantees Cycle Pedic Seats will displace more weight than any other seat making this the most comfortable seat in the industry.
Just wanted to throw out another positive mark for the AirHawk!
It literally doubled my daily saddle time.
Whats the comparison on the Airhawks with a stock seat and a aftermarket seat? I've been thinking about getting one. I hate to have to drop $600 on a new seat. I just got back from a 3200 mile trip through AL, TN, NC, SC and GA and I'm not sure what hurt worse, my back or butt
The rear of a stock RK Classic seat isn't much for comfort. Beads, Airhawk, sheepskin, etc. may help the driver but I don't think it will help the passenger much on a long trip.
IMHO a touring seat would be the answer.
Leaving Monday for my trip from Central NJ to Canada. Day 1 head to Burlington, VT, day 2 head into Canada and turn left. At some point we head south over the Mackinac bridge down the west coast of MI then head for home. Looking forward to it more than I can describe (but you all know what I am saying).
Unless the weather stinks that way, then we head east instead. No real destination, somewhat hazy plans, only goal is to ride and decompress for about 2,000 miles.
Highway pegs, airhawk, GPS and XM are all essential cruise elements. Limited comes with the saddlebag/Tour-Pak luggage and I got an HD bag for the luggage rack. Will look into the Timberland's since it would be nice to not have to wear the same riding boots for a week.
I will post thoughts on the ride (and perhaps even a pic or 2 when I return).
