Okay I have searched and searched and come up with nothing...
I recently bought an 09 electra glide standard (cop bike) and compared to my 02 T-sport this things sounds like I'm hitting the primary with a hammer when I am shifting. It is loudest when going to first, but still quite loud through all the gears. I am just wondering if this might be something out of the norm. Unfortunately no one I ride with has a newer touring bike so I could compare...
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
Have you changed or checked the fluids ?
Have you removed the magnetic plug for the primary, any metal ?
We have 3 touring bikes that I service and I run Harley primary fluid in the primary,s and Bel ray 85-140 in the tranny,s...
I just got my 07 Ultra and noticed that there seemed to be a lot more motor and transmission noise than my Rocker. I changed all the oils to synthetic and it took care of about 80% of the noise including the shifting noise.
Yes they are loud. I find that for first, if i idle with the clutch held in about 30 secs, it will just go in gear quietly. As far as shifting going down the road, again, it can be loud... but if I pay attention to how I am shifting, basically push the shifter, not slap/slam it with my heal or toe, it is quiet. Otherwise its loud, and between the fairing and lowers (if you have them) it reflects the noise back at you making it sound even louder.
The 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission is a bucket of bolts in comparison to the 5-speed in your T-Sport. You can play around with various fluids, but it's never going to be as smooth as your 5-speed was. If the bike's jerking when you put it in first and you know your clutch is properly adjusted, then your compensator's on the way out.
Do a search about SE compensator. I read some where that guys were changing there compensator to get rid of the loud hammer sound when shifting Sorry it was loud bang on start up but it did help with shifting

Switching to the SE Compensator on my '10 EG Ultra Classic made a significant improvement in shifting both from idle and while rolling plus the bike starts much smoother as well. No more loud bang at start up.
