Default Fork oil

HI all
Thinking about changing the fork oil in my 09 Ultra and have heard there might be a couple of challenges with this job, one is getting the drain plugs out since they seem to be in pretty tight, and getting the top caps back on. Any truth to this, any tips out there
Thanks

Not that hard. Drain plugs just unscrew using an allen wrench (cant remember what size) and top caps are easy to take off and put back on. You will need to remove the switch cap in order to get to the top caps. Use the wrench that came with the tool kit in your bike. I think its a size 36.

Actually mine drain screws are the chrome ones which are allens heads. Yours maybe phillips head.Use a ratchet with a bit if this is the case.

Hand impact comes in handy on the drain screws so you don't strip them out. The stock ones are phillips. Motion Pro sells a good fork cap socket for the top. The one with the bike is 36mm and will work on the top caps, but they are not 36mm. I suggest if you are going to do that then put a rag over the cap to take up the minimal slop in the 36mm wrench.

Keith T, I have the same issue and apparantly there are not many folks here has did this proceedure. I did it yesterday on my 03 EG classsic and will give you as much info as I can. Rmove the key switch, thes two screws hgold the panel covering the fork heads. Use the wrench in your kit to remove the nut at tht top of the fork. Then remove the phillip head nut on the lower part of the fork, this comes out easy with a #3 phillipd and a rachet. Drain all dirty fluid, no need to pump the shock. Replace the screw, fill with the proper amount of fluid, then replace the top cap nut. The only issue I encountered was due to my 03 having two different designed shocks from the factory. hope this helps a little.
