Hi everyone. I've just joined because I am looking at buying a full touring bike and would appreciate your input on the UC. I currently have a Yamaha Road Star Silverado and have looked at the 07 Ultra Classic just yesterday. What a great looking bike. Unfortunately it's starting to be winter here and test rides are done for the year.

I have a few questions and would appreciate your advice.

1) My RS has very slight vibration at 60mph. Does the UC have the same or is it smooth?
2) I've heard the UC has excess heat issues from the motor. Is this true?
3) I've heard the HK stereo is not all that good. Your comments would be appreciated.
4) How is the slow speed handling?
5) What do you like most about the UC?
6) What do you like the least about the UC?

Thanks for your help.....

I bought my 06 on September 1 of 2005. I dislike it so much that I have only put 18,200 miles on it since then.

1) My RS has very slight vibration at 60mph. Does the UC have the same or is it smooth?
Smooth like a baby's butt.

2) I've heard the UC has excess heat issues from the motor. Is this true?
103 degrees in OKC at 5 pm in August it was really hot, but I've ridden many other bikes including Yamahas that had a lot of engine heat as well.

3) I've heard the HK stereo is not all that good. Your comments would be appreciated.
I am completely satisfied with the stereo, agree that base response is better in the headset than the speakers.

4) How is the slow speed handling?
As soon as you are moving put your feet on the boards and do what you need to do. I drag the inside board making uturns all the time.

5) What do you like most about the UC?
Cruise Control!

6) What do you like the least about the UC?
That I rode other stuff for 30+ years before I bought one.

My 2007 Blue Suede Pearl Ultra Classic is a Birthday present from my wife.
I've rode motorcycles 40+ years and never owned a Harley, I've owned
over 80 motorcycles and I ride a Wing,a Concours and an 1100 Ninga between
the 4 motorcycles I have over 60,000 miles of riding so far in 2006.

The Ultra had 5,000+ miles on it in the first month I had it, now it is 2 months
old I have almost 10,000 miles on it so the tells you how much I like my Ultra.

I live in SC. and I have to say if I would have got it in June,July or August I would
not have rode this bike at all in the city or anywhere else there would be a risk of
going slow or being stopped in traffic. My inner thighs were burned badley from
one time getting caught in traffic at 75 degrees, my wife was burned also, both of
us were burned to the point of needing burn ointment and bandages.

The Ultra runs good BUT" it detonates and pings so bad at above 70 degrees it
will scare the HE!! out of you. DO NOT beleive anyone who tells you it does not
ping and detonate and run way to hot because that will be coming from people
that have no ears and no feeling what so ever.

Yes it rattles,it clanks,it vibrates,it whines,it shakes and I would not want it any
other way, I love it with all it's Harley faults!! Yes I would do it again in a minute
the Ultra is a great bike!

I hope Harley comes up with a fix for the pinging and HEAT" before spring or I'll
have to fix it my self before summer or just ride my Wing June,July and August
next year if it's not fixed.

I would say if you like Harleys rattles, clanks, vibratoins, whines and shakes you
love the Ultra other then the HEAT and pinging...

This Ultra has soul and personality I have not seen in a motorcycle since I was
a teenager and I haven't smiled this much riding since I was a teenager!!

There ya go thats my .02 on the 2007 Ultra!

Good Luck and Ride Safe my friend..

1) My RS has very slight vibration at 60mph. Does the UC have the same or is it smooth?
No vibration. You will get the harley shake at idle.

2) I've heard the UC has excess heat issues from the motor. Is this true?
Stage I and PCIII or SERT will solve the lean condition.

3) I've heard the HK stereo is not all that good. Your comments would be appreciated.
My HK radio is great.

4) How is the slow speed handling?
Great. They are a parade bike so they can turn in a small area. This does take practice though.

5) What do you like most about the UC?
Ride, comfort, looks, stroker motor, tall six speed tranny.

6) What do you like the least about the UC?
Lean condition (heat) until you pay the harley tax. Stated above.
Red emblem on my cobalt bike.

Living in Texas you have to deal with hot heat and the heat of the engine. I still would not trade it. I have the stage 1, k/n filter and vance and hines exhuast. It rides great. I have two small children so my rides are limited by having to be home quite a bit when I am not at the fire station/ or police off duty.

1) My RS has very slight vibration at 60mph. Does the UC have the same or is it smooth?
Smooth as can be. A little buzzy at 100mph but not objectionable. Shakes at idle, Ain't that so cool?2) I've heard the UC has excess heat issues from the motor. Is this true?
Stage I helped a lot, don't know about PC III.
3) I've heard the HK stereo is not all that good. Your comments would be appreciated.
Mine is a Radio Sound, predecessor to Harmon Kardon. Works great. I depend mostly on helmet speakers. No thumping bass but
very clear audio otherwise if you turn it up a little.

4) How is the slow speed handling?
Superb. Love throwing it into a tight turn around right hand corners, goes where you put it, comes up with little effort. With practice you could come to a complete stop before putting foot down. Balance is beautiful. I used to wobble up to a stop on my 84 Wing.

5) What do you like most about the UC?
I do long distance touring. Comfort is the main ingredient to doing this. Weather? No problem. Cool? Not a problem. Entertainment?
Its all there. Cruise control is excellant. In short, it does everything well.

6) What do you like the least about the UC?
CB antenna breaks off about every six months. I finally replaced it with a aftermarket shorty that is compatible with the loaded coil
in the tour pak.

I have owned this one for 5 years, and I have put over 50,000 miles on it. I have had two problems that were expensive: the cruise control throttle roll off switch died, and the cam chain tensioners needed replacement at 44,000 miles. I rode down to Las Vegas and back today and every time I take it for more than a 50 mile ride, I marvel at how well it performs. Climbing a grade? Just power on up. Got curves? Blow through 'em. High winds? Cuts right through. In town riding? Well, it does get warm, drat! I think I will just keep riding it until it or I wear out totally.

You won't be sorry. It will be somewhat expensive to own, but worth it, really.[8D]

Once you go black ( On a Harley ) you never go back! You might find a metric that does this better or that better.....but all in all, the Ultra is the best ALL AROUND bike. It may fall short here or there, but it will more than make up for it elsewhere.

1) My RS has very slight vibration at 60mph. Does the UC have the same or is it smooth?

Very smooth, especially at speeds

2) I've heard the UC has excess heat issues from the motor. Is this true?
In the summer it get a bit warm on the legs. I take the lower fairings off for the hot season.

3) I've heard the HK stereo is not all that good. Your comments would be appreciated.
My wife and I both think the 4 speaker stereo is great we usually use it with our mp3 player

4) How is the slow speed handling?
This being the heaviest bike I ever owned (I'm 57) it took some getting used to at low speeds. I took a riders course that was very helpful.

5) What do you like most about the UC?
I love being on it riding anywhere. My wife is very comfortable on the back. I call it the Queen seat.

6) What do you like the least about the UC?
Hard to check the tire pressure.

Make sure you rent one of course.
My neighbor let me ride his '05 Road Star midnight. It was pretty nice.
I've rented a few Electra Glide classics (same as the ultra with a few less add-ons).
The Harley has a pretty plush ride and rides nice but be prepared to be underwhelmed by the power (I've never ridden an '07 though).
You'll have to throw $$$ at it to wake up the engine.
Just my .02
