I too have followed too closely and hit vehicles in front of me - but luckily I was driving the cage where I sometimes don't leave enough room to stop. The cops have just laughed at me, and pointed out that even with busted taillights, there's now law against a guy stopping in the road without signalling. It may be dangerous, it may be ill-advised, and it may deserve a fix-it ticket, but it's not illegal and doesn't release me from liability. Prayers out to you for a short recovery and a more defensive-driving awareness on your new HOG, an experienced rider is a better rider!
Man, sorry about your accident. I feel some of your pain. I went down about a month or so ago. I wasn't hurt bad, though. Hope you feel better soon. I'll join others in praying for you. I will NOT offer pointers on how to ride. That's all I'll say about that.
I'm with Progressive, too, and they have been great to work with. Didn't question a thing my dealer or I thought should be replaced. Replacing everything instead of repairing. And found stuff to replace I didn't find.
Called them last week to tell them I was back in town so they could look at my helmet. Rep came to my office today, looked at the helmet, took pics, and wrote me a check for replacement on the spot.
My cars are insured with Allstate, and I was about to switch my bike to Allstate. Not so sure now. Pleased with the service.
Sorry about your accident. Hope you get feeling better soon. And yes, don't take any crap from the Insurance company. Never take the first offer!! Take care....
Reminds me of the movie "The Computer that wore Tennis Shoes"; both you and Kurt Russell took a serious beat-down and yet you have very good typing!
You broke your eye socket, your skull, and a handful of ribs and yet you read and type just fine or better than before!
So my question is: What kind of meds did they put you on?
Seriously though, at least you didn't waste a good crash and ran into something, some guy on a dyna in another thread was checking out the dude behind him in his mirrors and forgot to follow the road
