Does synthetic oil in the primary help or hinder stator longevity? An interesting question I also would like to have an answer for. Harley runs syn oil in all their CVO's and I have over 100K riding with syn oil with other bikes, never had a stator problem because of it. I think we need a poll to find out if it is just happening to the newer bikes.
ok, start the poll...it should be interesting...might ant to include if the level at service is refilled to 45oz, 38oz, or just the 32oz, seems to be much confusion on this and its conceptual that not enough fluid could result in inadequate stator washing. Bet the dealers are just doing the 32oz.

My ind tech tells me that he sees more stator problems on bike that run synthetic oil, and nearly never on std oil.
I've never heard this before, and have the impression the newer 3-phase alternators are reliable. I've heard of few going out, but that limited knowledge is just based on reading forums, not working on bikes day after day. I use fossil oil in the primary, but not because of any fear of harming the stator.
I have had the primary open on my 08 RoadGlide a few times (once to put on a chrome inner primary and once to put in the SE compensator). Each time I took it apart the stator and rotor were completely dry. I do not see how the type of oil could have anything to do with stators failing.

Sounds like more "oil" BS to me!
It is oil BS, but your stator and rotor shouldn't be completely dry...
I don't think it has much to do with the oil, I think they are just cheap azz chinese parts.
I'm going after market. Cycle Electric or Accel.
I went with Cycle Electric but don't know how it works yet because I can't start the bike yet...long story...will let you know! The Regulator/stator/rotor kit for my '07 was $488 using the "Gold Club" thing at JP Cycles.
