Was riding home tonight on route 52 in rural Joliet IL area, around 2130 hrs. Started enjoying the ride let my mind drift wasn't 100% on ride. when this cager pulls out in front of me. Had my right foot on the highway peg and didn't even have time to hit the brakes. But the lord was looking out and stop the car just in time, As I rode by. It was close if he hadn't of stopped I wouldn't have either. We have a dangerous love with these scoots, and it can be unforgiving, sucks that we have to be 100% 100% of the time. Ride safe guys ride safe.
If I wasn't drifting in thought I would have covered the brake when I seen the car come to a stop, maybe hit high beams to make sure. But I thought for sure he saw me and didn't go defensive. My fault for that his fault for being a blind f$&k.
close calls, how many do we get? Hopefully not one less then we need. Took my highway pegs off after a similar wake up call last year, The older I get the slower my reaction time. glad to hear it went so well for you.
Best advice I ever got was at the MSF basic rider course when they told us to ride like no one can see you. Hard to do 100% of the time but I try as much as I can. I know its saved my butt a couple of times.
Man, I was just thinkin of puttin on some highway pegs too. Prolly O.K for the superslab but would be tempting to use in other places too. I will have to think about this again.
I'm sure glad you're OK! I say a prayer every time I get on the bike, say prayers as I ride and thank Him as I ride and afterwards thank Him for the ride and taking care of me. I can't count the times I've had close calls, but have ALWAYS felt watched over.
I have ALWAYS ridden with my index finger covering the front brake. Some 70% of your braking power is in the front brakes and one finger may not provide enough power for some people. Also not be comfortable for some, but it works for me.
