Has anyone ever heard of, dealt with, or usedAmerican Custom exhaust? Seems like the way to go for someone on a budget. Just wondering if anyone has some extra info on them. Thanks.
There are several threads in regard to American Custom exhausts. I'm going that route after I get my Power Commander V. I like the option of modifying the baffles to suit my taste.
I was just looking at them myself yesterday. Read lots of "old" threads on them and for the most part, they are well liked.
According to one of the reps at American Customs, I can run the their mufflers with my FuelMoto Jackpot Ceramic head pipes without having to tune / download or do a Stage I A/C swap and the bike will run "normally".
They did go on to say that if I wanted to swap out the A/C (Stage I), then the download or PCV or some other "tuner" would be required.
Thanks guys. I heard about them through a friend of mine, although he runs V+H pipes. I checked out their website and it all looks good. Basically, they take stock pipes and modify them. The dyno chart shows a slight increase in HP and torque but the say that it really helps with heat issues. I haen't really noticed any heat issues wth my new Glide but my fiance says it is definitely hotter than our Night Train we traded in. But you get a factory fit (read guaranteed) full exhaust system for $350 bills. That screams good deal to me in a world of $700-1000 exhaust systems.
I was a little concerned with the fact that they said no other tuning required, just bolt on and go. Especially when all the other manufacturers are trying to sell SERT or PC, etc. with their exhausts. So I emailed them to ask. American Customs told me that the new Harleys run a "closed loop" EFI system, which is why they added the O2 sensors. The fuel mapping is always being adjusted as you ride based on load, throttle position, temp and humidity, etc. With stock air cleaner and o2 sensors in place, this all makes perfect sense. If you change out air cleaner or go with larger diameter pipes, thats what changes things and then you need to step up to a new programmer or download.
Hope this helps you guys. I am planning on going with that company. I didn't buy my Glide to race and it has the 103 in it, so I am petty happy with performance as it is now. Of course more is always better, but not if you don't have the extra cash to throw down. I want the sound and the approx. 10% increas in power and torque is very good for that kind of money. Probably going with the slash up Bombers.
