Default oily film ?

2011 Street Glide 1800 mile

Last week I rode 100 miles and When I got home I noticed an oiy type film on the left side of the tank underneath and coming up the front.

Could not find the source so I cleaned it all up.

Rode to work all week 10 miles or so each way. no film or residue on bike.

Tonight Iride100 miles to the beach ad when I get off the film is back and there is traces on the lower fairing.

Cannot seem to find a possible source. No oil on frame or motor nothing on the frame or brake lines that I can see.

Any ideas where the source could be that would not be visible?

Brake line maybe?

You probably took your bike in for 1000 mile service. They greased the stearing head and thats the compressed grease turning to oil in the hot weather. Wipe off the excess grease from around the zerk and top under the tripple tree if it has any. Problem solved.
Mine did the exact thing short rides no grease long rides grease. Thought that I wiped all the grease off on my first attemp then took a ride and knew that I missed some. Got it all the second time. I actually thought I had a fork leakinguntil I found many threads on this subject here.

I had the same mystery leak earlier this week.

Rode the bike to work and it sat out in 100 degree heat in the sun.

Came out to go home and noticed a drop of oil on the concrete and more on the cow bell on the left side.

I thought oh crap my fork is leaking. I installed the chrome front end myself a few months ago.

I looked at the oil and it was blue. When I saw it was blue I new it was not SE Heavy fork oil.

Stuck my finger up around the steering had and came back with a wad of dark blue grease on my fingers. A lot of grease.

Clean up all that excess steering head grease and it will fix the problem.
